Sorry for another hot take, let’s get real about Sam Darnold. This guy has not lived up to the hype, and it’s been a rough ride. Since coming into the NFL with the New York Jets, Darnold’s career has been marked by inconsistency and missed opportunities. Sure, he’s shown some flashes of potential, but overall, his play has been a letdown. His 2020 season with the Jets was particularly rough, with more interceptions than touchdowns and a lot of head-scratching decisions. Darnold’s struggles are hard to ignore. His accuracy issues and inability to manage games effectively have been glaring problems. Even after his move to the Carolina Panthers, he hasn’t exactly turned things around. It feels like he’s still searching for the right fit or the right system to help him succeed. And while it’s not entirely his fault—he’s had coaching changes and inconsistent support—his performances have left a lot to be desired. At the end of the day, Sam Darnold has yet to prove he’s the quarterback teams can rely on to lead them to success.
