Carson Wentz: The Unfulfilled Promise

It's not all 5-stars on BQQBs! we have some underwhelimg guys too :) Case in point: Carson Wentz. He entered the NFL with a ton of hype and high expectations, especially after being drafted second overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016. There was a lot of talk about how he was going to be a game-changer and a franchise quarterback. And to be fair, his rookie season did show promise—he threw for over 3,700 yards and 16 touchdowns, leading the Eagles to a respectable 7-9 record. But as the seasons went on, Wentz’s performance became a rollercoaster of highs and lows that left many scratching their heads. One of the biggest criticisms of Wentz is his inconsistency. He’s had seasons where he looked like a potential superstar, only to follow them up with frustratingly average or even poor performances. The 2017 season was a high point; he was playing at an MVP-caliber level before a knee injury cut his season short. The Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl that year, but Wentz wasn’t on the field for the big game, which some critics point to when evaluating his legacy. In the years that followed, Wentz struggled with accuracy issues and decision-making. His 2020 season with the Eagles was a particular low point, as he threw 15 touchdowns against 15 interceptions and seemed to have lost confidence. His tenure with the Indianapolis Colts in 2021 wasn’t much better, ending with a disappointing finish and a missed playoff berth despite a promising start. The Colts’ decision to move on from him after just one season speaks volumes about how far Wentz has fallen from his initial promise. Overall, Carson Wentz’s career has been marked by inconsistency and missed opportunities. Despite flashes of potential, he’s struggled to maintain a high level of play and deliver when it counts. His journey has been a cautionary tale about the perils of high expectations and the challenges of living up to them in the NFL. Quarterback Quality Rating: ⭐️⭐️
